This Week at
The Knitter's Edge

What can I say?  Its getting closer and closer to Holiday time and we all should be knitting away!

Set aside time each week to work on your gift projects.  Join us during any class time to just get away from it all and sit and knit.  It will help to keep you cool and calm during this hectic season.

For your Gift Getting (not giving) we are now offering all of you our Gift List.  Just tell us what gifts you are interested ion and we will put all the info on our computer under your name.  When someone comes in to get you a Holiday gift- we can help them out by letting them know exactly what  you like.  Even though a gift certificate is a wonderful gift, it is always nicer to get exactly what you want.

Welcome to Mitten Month!

 November is Mitten Month
 Next Week:  Sideways Mittens!
mitten imageThis month we are starting a new project- making mittens.  So many people have told me that they have never knit or crocheted a pair of mittens.  Well, all of that is about to change.  Each week in November we will introduce you to a different method of knitting mittens, with at least one pair of crocheted ones as well.

Mitten treeOur ultimate goal is to make enough mittens to cover a mitten tree in December- with all mittens then going to a Bethlehem elementary school in need.  Children want and need to go out to play at recess and if their hands get cold, its not much fun.  By providing mittens for these kids, we will be doing a good thing, and making some children very happy.

Please join us in this effort, and knit a pair of mittens (kids sizes only) for our future tree.  Each week we will have a new free pattern, and often a yarn on sale to aid your efforts.

mitten in the round
The last 2 weeks we worked on flat mittens and this week I will be teaching mittens in the round.  During the Charity knitting time this week I will be teaching both. Either mitten should be knit out of Encore Worsted or Comfort- 2 machine washable and dryable worsted weight yarns.  Both are very reasonably priced as well. This pattern is ready, and available at the shop.

This Saturday morning 10-12 we will once again be teaching how to knit up these mittens- please join us!

Oh- we will also make this a fun project by making it into a contest.
Prizes will be awarded in mid December for:
1.  The best made mittens
2.  The most creative mittens
3.  Most colorful mittens
4.  Grand prize for best overall mittens.

Mittens must be for kids- sizes 5-10 (elementary school).
Machine washable - please.
Knit or crocheted in a yarn you purchased at The Knitter's Edge  (other mittens will be accepted as well, but will not be eligable for prizes).

There will be classes each week featuring mittens- beginner ones through expert designs.  Make them for yourself or others as well.

THIS THURSDAY:  During the charity knitting class on Thursday November 18- 3:30 - 5:30 PM-- I will be teaching mittens.  Join us for some knitting to help others and learn to make a pair of mittens.

I SEE FLYING SAUCERS

Flying Saucer

This new sock yarn from Skacel has an interesting story...The merino nylon blend is dyed as a double strand of fingering weight yarn- 2 strands which are easily separated into a workable yarn for 2 socks on 2 circs.  Then the yarn is put up on a disc that looks like a flying saucer.    Lots of fun!

Flying Saucer socks

Pat will be holding a class soon to work with this new fun stuff.  Get your own Flying Saucer before they are sold out.  There are many colors to choose from.  Each saucer makes a pair of socks, such as the one shown here.

Cashmere Scarf Kits
