Welcome to Mitten Month!

 November is Mitten Month
mitten imageThis month we are starting a new project- making mittens.  So many people have told me that they have never knit or crocheted a pair of mittens.  Well, all of that is about to change.  Each week in November we will introduce you to a different method of knitting mittens, with at least one pair of crocheted ones as well.
Mitten treeOur ultimate goal is to make enough mittens to cover a mitten tree in December- with all mittens then going to a Bethlehem elementary school in need.  Children want and need to go out to play at recess and if their hands get cold, its not much fun.  By providing mittens for these kids, we will be doing a good thing, and making some children very happy.
Please join us in this effort, and knit a pair of mittens (kids sizes only) for our future tree.  Each week we will have a new free pattern, and often a yarn on sale to aid your efforts.
first mittenFor the first week we are featuring the basic 2 needle mitten pattern- knit in Encore- or any washable worsted weight yarn.  Pattern is free at the shop, with the purchase of one ball of either Encore or Comfort- our best 2 machine washable, kid friendly, worsted weight yarns.
Oh- we will also make this a fun project by making it into a contest.
Prizes will be awarded in mid December for:
1.  The best made mittens
2.  The most creative mittens
3.  Most colorful mittens
4.  Grand prize for best overall mittens.
Mittens must be for kids- sizes 5-10 (elementary school).
Machine washable - please.
Knit or crocheted in a yarn you purchased at The Knitter's Edge  (other mittens will be accepted as well, but will not be eligable for prizes).
There will be classes each week featuring mittens- beginner ones through expert designs.  Make them for yourself or others as well.
Bella's Mittens smallFor this first week, besides the basic 2 needle mitten, we also have a far more intricate pair- called Bella's mittens.  Shown here, ours are knit in Peru- a Merino/ alpaca/ acrylic blend.
Get the pattern free at the shop with the purchase of the yarn.  This pattern also works well with Debbie Bliss Donegal Tweed Chunky.
Just Arrived!

November toys
New toys have been arriving daily.  These will make some great stocking stuffers. Mini scissors, small chair- side carry alls, and a light to wrap around your neck- for those knitting- in- the- dark car rides.  Stop by to see what we have- all this and much more.
Feature yarn of the week
Cha Cha hank
Cha Cha by Trendsetter is a fun yarn to knit.  Works up much like the Flounce, only easier.  Emily is working on an 8 stitch version of this ruffly scarf- shown below as a 15 stitch version.  No pattern is necessary- we will personally show you how to work this yarn up- just give us about 5 minutes of your time- on the couch.
Cha Cha Scarf
Bring size 8 or 9 needles.
It only takes 1 hank of Cha Cha to make this scarf.  Check out Emily's version at the shop this week.
