This Week at
The Knitter's Edge

I goofed it up in the last email- the end of this week marks the end of July (not last week), and as we enter into August we start some new things.

My newest project is what I call Countdown to Christmas!  More on that later in this newsletter.

We also have a new survey program that we are trying.  To see what this is all about, click on this link, or copy and paste it into your browser:

This is a survey about us going to an Iron Pigs game.  Only 100 people can take the survey;  we only have the trial program for now.  If this turns out to be a fun thing to do ( take surveys) then we will get the full program so all can participate.

Afghan Square Challenge

This is the last week we can make these afghan squares.  I still do need more, so let me know if you need a pattern.  I will provide you with any square pattern you desire to make a 12" square out of Encore for this wonderful charity project.

We intend to put together a beautiful afghan of knitted squares.  The afghan will be auctioned off for Turning Point.  Please join us in this worthwhile venture.  See me for more details.

What's New?

licence plate

We purchased these licence plate frames- and they are for sale for only $3.99!  But if you don't have anyone to put it on your car for you- we do!  This Saturday- July 31 we will have someone here at the shop to install your new licence plate frame for you- at no charge. My oldest son Jonathan will be set up in our Parking Lot to install your plate for you while you knit.  More info on Friday regarding this.

 CROCHET!
 I crochet
There will be one more session of Beginning Crochet with Pat on Tuesday night July 27.  The class is full with several people on the waiting list.  With such a demand we knew we had to continue featuring Crochet!

So, Pat is now doing a daytime class- on Wednesdays at 10:00 - 12:00.  All levels of crochetters welcome.

We are also very glad to announce that we have a new teacher- Lisa -who will be keeping our Tuesday night classes going.  Stop by this Tuesday during Pat's last nightime class to meet Lisa.

For those already signed up for the evening classes- please bring a size G or H hook if you have one,  We supply the yarn to start.  We also have hooks available at the shop for purchase.

PenquinHere is a simple beginner's project Pat will be starting this week- on Tuesday night, and on Wednesday morning.  He is a cute little guy crocheted with worsted weight yarn.

Joe Penguin Kits are being assembled and are available for sale.

Amigurumi catOther simple crochet projects will appear each week, such as this amigurami cat that Steph is working on.

And Lisa has a few ideas of her own- stay tuned!

Countdown to Christmas

So now to announce my latest project:  Countdown to Christmas!  We noticed that there are (as of today) 21 weeks until Christmas Week, so I am going to start my countdown beginning next week (with a bonus week this week).

If we all do just one project a week, we will have 20 gifts ready to go by the holidays.  Last year we all started too late, so this year we are getting going earlier.

What I am planning is to have a free pattern available each week for a fast Christmas gift idea.  Some weeks the project will be accompanied by a sale on the designated yarn.  Other weeks there will be a free class available for the project.   By no means do I have all of the projects done yet, and I will admit that some weeks I will be winging it, but I think I can do this and keep up with it for the rest of the year.  Please pray for me... I think I will need it.

So to start things off, I am offering this free pattern for week 21.

This is a ladies beret featuring a feather & fan design.  The beret takes 2 balls of Escape chunky- a bulky weight wool/acrylic blend on sale in our pool this week for only $5.00 each.  Last week we discovered a hidden stash of this yarn so the pool is again overflowing with many colors.

Now I know this is a bad photo, but ol' Sheepy here was the only model I had available to me.  I promise I'll get a better photo.

Washcloths on the Couch with JoAnne

fountain lace clothDue to popular demand, I will now be doing a washcloth class every Tuesday evening.  Truth is, I tried to cancel last week because there were 3 large classes being conducted that night, but my washcloth knitters showed up anyway.  I am so glad they can't take no for an answer.  So, from now on every Tuesday evening there will be a washcloth class on the couch and I promise you some great projects will be coming up!
This Tuesday I am planning on this Fountain Lace Cloth- much easier than last week's project that drove everyone crazy.  It was indeed a tough one.
Bring size 7 needles.
NOTE:  This washcloth will also be available on Thursday morning.

 Washcloths with JoAnne

 BSjacket rawThis is a washcloth????
This is a photo of the project we started last week, and you are still welcome to begin it this coming week.  It is time for these now experienced knitters to try their hands at something beyond washcloths,

It may look like a blob now, but will folds up to become a baby sweater!  This is Elizabeth Zimmermann's Baby Surprise Jacket.  A wonderful project and the washcloth class is ready for it.  3 balls of a self striping yarn called Duo Plus will make this sweater.  Yarn is a 50/50 blend of cotton and wool and it is soft as can be.  Duo Plus is available in 6 colors and specially priced at $5.00 a ball.  Join us next Thursday morning to continue on, or begin this sweater.  It will take a few weeks to finish it so we will still feature a washcloth each week to add variety to the class.  Bring a 24" needle size 5 or 6, and  2 removable stitch markers ( the little plastic safety pins work great!) for the sweater.

PS:  I promised I would show you what it looks like finished:
