This Week at
The Knitter's Edge

Well, June is now here- for many of us the official beginning of Summer.  I know the teachers are counting the days, if not the hours.

As promised, The Knitters Edge begins a new slate of classes- designed to TEACH you all summer.  Our classes will begin to be divided in to 2 catagories, fun project classes- where general knitting, help sessions, and some project classes will be, and more teaching oriented classes- designed to further your knowledge of a certain technique.

These new classes will begin slowly- a couple each week if we can.   Milly starts her new classes this week and next, I will start 2 new ones the 3rd week of June, and Marilyn will start several the last week of June.  And thats only the beginning...

Let me make one thing perfectly clear- you will always learn something new in ANY and ALL of our classes- because the more you knit (or crochet) and the more teachers you are exposed to- the more you will learn,
Spend the summer trying some new things- new teachers, new projects, new techniques.

Learning is what we want to be all about.  Join us- we will take you far.

My First Lace Chart Class

This class has filled up fast!!  Please sign up for the nightime session as the daytime session is full! We will hold an additional class session on this subject if needed.

The new My First Lace Chart Classes with our new teacher Milly will be held on Thursday mornings June 3, and 10, and on Tuesday evenings June 8, and 15.

Milly's scarf

Milly has finished and blocked out the scarf you will be making and it is lovely.  But this class is about much, much more than a scarf... its about learning about LACE- how it is created, what rules apply and how to read the charts that go with it.   Our classes are sometimes more about the process and less about the product- learn HOW to make this stuff happen and you can create anything.

Please call to sign up now for either class- June 3 & 10 at 10-12 noon or June 8 & 15 from 6:30-8:30 PM.  The daytime sessions are quite full so I recommend the night sessions.  Bring paper and pen to take notes and size 8 needles- straight ones are fine.  You will need 2 balls of yarn- either Pure Pima by Berocco or Somerset by Plymouth.  We have both yarns in a wide range of colors.
AFGHAN CHALLENGE

The Cornwall Yarn Shop in Cornwall NY has issued a challenge to the fine knitters of the The Knitter's Edge.   Gail- the owner thinks that her knitters can out knit our knitters.  Well.... I think we need to show just what we can do.

The Challenge is for each shop to knit 20 afghan squares out of Encore Worsted- each a 12" square.  These 20 best squares will be judged on their creativity, beauty, etc.  Then, 20 overall winners will be chosen from the 40 squares provided by the 2 shops.  The shop that has the most "winning squares" will receive a pizza party provided by the losing shop.  All squares will be sewn into aghans to be auctioned off for charity.  Our charity of choice is Turning Point.    All squares must be knit out of Encore Worsted- fall palette colors.  Each will take less than 1 ball of yarn.  All entries must be in by July 17.

I will be holding some free class sessions to teach how to make sure your square is 12". You know I always like to teach you something with every project we do.   Full guidelines for this challenge will be available at The Knitters Edge- or look them over here.

In an effort to fund the "Shared Stitches" project at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital,  the Cornwall Yarn Shop has challenged The Knitter's Edge in Bethlehem, PA to design afghan squares.  Completed afghans will be raffled/auctioned and proceeds will go to Shared Stitches.

Entrelac shawlPat  is taking on another new project this month- an entrelac triangular shawl called Dianna.  She is knitting her shawl with Ty-Dy Sock and so far the colors are working out very well- with each color run in the yarn working up about 2 blocks of the entrelac so the colors are looking like an ever changing display of diamonds.  The leaf motif in each block adds a wonderful lace detail.

You might need a bit of help making sure your square for the Encore Afghan Challenge is 12" square.  Come to this free class session to gain a bit of knowledge on how to take a stitch pattern and make it come up to a certain knitted size.
Bring a calculator, paper, pen and your stitch pattern ideas ( WOW- no yarn!))
Note- this class- which is short will flow into the next class- a nice washcloth.  We will work up the wash cloth used in the Knit a 12" Square demonstration.
