This Weekend at
The Knitter's Edge

I think many of the teachers out there are counting down the days until school is out... so are the kids.  Therfore, even though the recent weather has been less than spring or summer like, lets all turn our thoughts to those warm weather months ahead.  Teachers- we are adding a few classes this summer just for you so you can relax and enjoy your time off-and knit away...

Now we move our focus to the retreat on Monday, May 24.  Read more below to see how you can join us.

New Class coming

In June, we will have a new teacher joining us for two types of classes.  Milly is a wonderful lace knitter who will be teaching a class on Thursday mornings June 3 & 10 called My First Lace Chart.  In this class you will learn to read simple lace charts while knitting a lovely summer lace scarf.  If all goes well, she will stay with us to teach more advanced lace chart work with a lace shawl. And, since so many have asked me- Yes!! she will teach the My First Lace Chart class at night too- sometime this summer- I promise!

But Milly has another talent- she speaks Spanish and is a professional translator.  She has offered to teach a beginning knitters class in Spanish.  We already have 2 new knitters signed up, but we need more.  If you know of anyone who could benefit from this- please let us know.  And now as I promised:  Milly has translated my request for the Spanish speaking would be knitters to join us:

The Knitter's Edge ofrecerá a partir de junio clases EN ESPAÑOL para aprender a tejer a dos agujas (tricot).  Por favor díganos qué día de la semana sería el más conveniente para usted. La clase durará 2 horas y el costo es $6.00.  Nosotros tenemos en la tienda todos los materiales que necesitará, pero si ya tiene sus propias agujas, tráigalas a la clase. Tuesday & Thursday
6:30 - 8:30 PM
Lace Shawls with Linda M.

Heartland lace shawl
Linda Miller IS crazy about shawls.  She just finished one- the Nightsongs shawl and is now working on The Audrey Triple.  She is also interested in soon beginning work on the Heartlands Lace Shawl (shown above) for which she has chosen a soft brown shade of NUNA as the shawl has a rustic southwest feel to her.

She has a couple of additional patterns in mind, and it is just fine if everyone is working on a different one.  It will make you realize how versatile shawls can be and just how many yarns will knit up well as a shawl.

REMEMBER- you can freely come to either of Linda's classes- Tuesday or Thursday.  So if one week the Tuesday works best- come then, and the next week- Thursday of it suits your schedule better.

Our Quiet Day- The Retreat

We need to get some final numbers on people who wish to attend the retreat.  This number is needed primarily for a lunch count.
We have decided that during the morning knitting session we will  concentrate on starting a project to aid our mid year charity of choice:  Turning Point.  My thought is to knit and crochet washcloths which can be used at the safe houses.  We will supply everything needed except for needles and hooks.  We will have several patterns available- at several experience levels. Please bring size 7 or 8 needles or size H or I crochet hook. Cotton yarn will be available.

Turning Point of Lehigh Valley is a safe place where victims of abuse and their children can find refuge  They provide services in Lehigh and Northampton Counties to more than 5,000 victims of domestic violence each year

The Retreat
The St. Francis Renewal Center on Bridle Path Road in Bethlehem has offered all of us a day for reflextion and relaxation on May 24 (a Monday).  This will officially be called:

A Retreat and Refresh Day for Charity Knitters and Crocheters

Please be sure to reserve that day on your calendars!  The only cost will be for lunch- $10.00 and I am told they put on a very nice lunch.  You are also welcome to bring a lunch along instead.

Our plans thus far are to hold 2 sessions: 10:00 - 12:00 and 1:00 - 3:00 with the lunch being from 12:00 - 1:00.  The morning session will be a knitting class- informal but a learning experience none the less.
The afternoon session will be more of a reflection time with some spiritual readings and discussions- while we knit and work on our group project.

We will provide final details next week.  For right now- please sign up  by emailing Laura Howell at:  lauramh@gmail.com

This could be a very recharging experience.  Eileen and I plan on attending, and teaching, and we hope that everyone who helped us with our charity projects this year will join us as well.

The Swimming Pool is Back!
So whats in the pool this week?

TWICE TWEED- 1/3 off this week!

Twice Tweed
Twice Tweed is composed of  42% wool, 32% nylon, and 26% cotton.

It is made from 100% recycled fibers using a patented manufacturing process that saves water and energy, with no discharge into the environment. No polluting dyeing is used in the process.
The yarn is a bit stiff while working with it- which makes it an easy knit.  But once done- you wash it and WOW does it ever soften up!
Twice Tweed baby sweater
It makes a lovely baby or kid's sweater as seen here.  This sweater uses only 4 balls for the baby size and knits up easily in no time.  The pattern is free with yarn purchase.  This will also work up very well in the 5 hour baby sweater (you remember- the one that took me 10 hours???)  Free pattern available for this one too.
