Highlights of upcoming classes
 BIG NEWS!!!!!
Tuesdays- Beginning February 16
10:00 - 12:00 and 1:00 - 3:00 PM with Pat
Crochet for Crocheters and Knitters in the morning,
General Knitting in the afternoon
Starting next week, Pat Walker will be joining us on Tuesdays.  In the morning- 10:00 - 12:00 Pat will hold a class called Crochet for Crocheters and Knitters.  I think I will even take this class!  All knitters should know how to do some crochet- they should especially be able to work borders around their knitting.  Think of an afghan... You should know how to add that picot edging. Or that cute washcloth- can you add a single crochet border in a contrasting color?  Learn all of these things with Pat on Tuesday mornings.  And if you are a crocheter already- Pat will be able to take you far!!!
On Tuesday afternoons- 1:00 - 3:00 Pat will hold a general knitting class.
Our Tuesday classes are getting way too full- so adding an additional class session will allow for more personal teacher attention for each student.
Tuesday February 16
6:30 - 8:30 PM with Linda Miller
Baby Surprise Jacket
 Baby Surprise Jacket
NEXT WEEK- Linda will be back for this class- this sweater has been way too popular to end it now- so join up!
The Elizabeth Zimmermann Baby Surprise Jacket is listed in the top 5 most knitted designs, on Ravelry.  This project has indeed been a favorite for many years.  If you have never knit one- you need to.  Just garter stitch, but a lot of learning available here.  Works up wonderfully in our new self striping yarns.  Join Linda- who is a master on this design, having knitted several and instructed many.  Knitted on circular needles- probably size 5 for most.  Linda will continue this class for a few weeks to come- so join up now.
Free Help session on Wednesday afternoons
Starting last week- Steph began leading a session from 4:00 - 6:00 to provide for free (yes free!) help with projects.  With as busy as we have been- some days we just don't have enough time to give each and every one of you enough time to fix those small problems.  We hope that this Wednesday afternoon session will help.
Thursday February 18
Stephanie's 4:00 - 6:00 PM class will be Exploring the World of Toys
You are all aware of all of the adorable toys that Steph has been creating.  It is one of her passions.  Well she would like to share this passion with all of you.  Some of her toys are simple- some are very intricate- like Maxwell here.  Come see what Steph has in store for knitters- every Thursday afternoon.

Some New Stuff !
A lot of new stuff has come in recently- we are trying hard to get it all into the computer, and out onto the shelves.   Stop by to see whats new- and watch this space in newsletters to come for photos and details on all the new goodies!
February is Olympic Month!
Olympic Torch February is Olympics Month!
The Olympics begin on February 12 and end on February 28.  17 days of high paced olympic events.  Even if you watch only an hour each night- that's 17 hours of TV- plenty of time to knit an afghan!  We have decided to make our Olympic Challenge an Afghan Event!
So why an afghan?
Afghans are often difficult projects to knit- they are usually large, not very portable, and often hard to keep excited about as the project can seem never- ending.
My solution is to keep a large project such as an afghan near your TV chair- work on it nightly- or as often as you watch TV.  This will break the project down into smaller, more managable parts- an hour or two a night will not seems like much- but will move a large project along nicely.
If you still think that an afghan is not a doable project in the time you personally have available- consider a double stranded afghan.  A baby blanket, or lap robe size throw can work up easily in 8 hours or so.  A full size throw can be completed in a long weekend- maybe 30 hours (well maybe 2 long weekends).
With the Olympics coming- we are taking about 17 nights of events- maybe 2 hours a night- thats 34 hours- hours spent knitting a large afghan- not spent just sitting & watching TV.  More productive oh yes!
Rules of this event:
Purchase yarn for an afghan between now and the olympics.  Knit up your afghan during the olympics.  Bring in the finished afghan around the time of the closing ceremonies for all of us to admire (we will take pictures), and we will award you with a
20% off coupon
to use during March 2010.   We will also be awarding our own Gold, Silver & Bronze medals- just for fun.
Please join us and get an afghan knitted by the end of this month.   Crochetters are invited too!
To help you choose a project- we will have several afghan booklets available free of charge with your yarn purchase.
