Highlights of upcoming classes
Tuesday January 5
10:00 - 12:00 PM-  with Eileen
Ariel Shawl
Eileen will start 2 (not one but two!) new shawls- one cabled- knit with a worsted -aran weight yarn, and the other- a lace weight openwork shawl.
Lace ShawlThe lace shawl is shown here in Cashmere, but Baby Alpaca Lace could easily be substituted, producing as beautiful a result.  The stitch pattern is an easy repeat for more relaxing knitting.  Call us for the needle sizes to bring- both would be best knitted on circulars.
Tuesday January 5
6:30 - 8:30 PM with Linda Miller
Baby Surprise Jacket
Baby Surprise Jacket
The Elizabeth Zimmermann Baby Surprise Jacket is listed in the top 5 favorite, most knitted designs, on Ravelry.  This project has indeed been a favorite for many years.  If you have never knit one- you need to.  Just garter stitch, but a lot of learning available here.  Works up wonderfully in our new self striping yarns.  Join Linda- who is a master on this design, having knitted several and instructed many.  Knitted on circular needles- probably size 5 for most.
Wednesday, January 6
1:00 - 3:00 PM with Eileen
Offering Mitts and others
fingerless mittsEileen had so many knitters who wanted to work on the Fetching mitts (another top 5 Ravelry favorite), that we needed to continue holding this class after the new year.  But for those who got the mitts done already, she is adding a new lace gauntlet called Offering Mitts.
 Offering Mitts
These Offering Mitts are lovely.  Knit in fingering weight yarn- a dyed solid color would look as good as natural does shown here. Bring double points for either project- size 5 for the fetching, size 1 for the offering mitts.  Yarn available at the Shop.
Wednesday January 6
6:30 - 8:30 PM with Stephanie
HeadbandA headband that doubles as a neckwarmer, was designed by Stephanie to look like this headband that one of our customers purchased in NYC.  She did a great job of deciphering a difficult design. It's a fast project, and we have a feeling you will want to make several.  With 2 hanks of Trabajos- you can make 2- just reversing the colors for the second one. Bring size 8 or 9 needles- straights will do.  All yarn available at the shop.
Thursday, January 7
10:00 - 12:00 PM with JoAnne
A Classic Washcloth
January ClothThis week Eileen will be filling in for me as I will be on my way to sunny LA.  Don't envy me too much- it's a hard working business trip to TNNA- the industry trade show.  I found this terrific, easy washcloth that will rival the Darryl Waltrip for first place as the most enjoyed and reknit washcloth.  It will be a classic.  Yarn is provided- just bring size 7 needles.

Friday, January 8
10:00 - 12:00 PM with Stephanie
New Cowls
Cream Cowl
The cowl was the biggest hit for the Holidays- now it is time to knit one for yourself.  Try a lacey one- Stephanie has some lovely new patterns to try out.
Saturday- January 8
1:00 - 3:00 PM with Pat
Sue's Scarf (from Sue the Ewe)
Sue the Ewe
Even if you are not making Sue the Ewe and Sam the Sam- you have to just love her scarf.  So Pat will guide you through knitting the scarf only if you wish.  This lovely lace scarf can be worn by the Ewe, or by You!  Takes just 1 hank of fingering weight sock yarn.  Pattern will be provided.  Bring circular needles- size 3-4.
Saturday- January 9
1:00 - 3:00 PM with Eileen
Toe up socks
 Spiral socks
Eileen and I did these socks as a class project several years ago.  They were a huge hit.  Knitted in a heavy DK weight yarn- they work up fast with a fun slip stitch pattern using a print and a solid.  The afterthought heel makes the knitting an easy go.  Bring double points- size 4.
Many more classes will be coming in the upcoming weeks- we have lots and lots of ideas
A January Challenge
Our January Challenge to knit 100 hats for the homeless is now officially underway!
Below are 2 patterns for this week: one for worsted weight yarn such as Encore Worsted, Galway Worsted, or Comfort.  The hat takes only 1 ball of the yarn.  The other pattern is written for Encore Mega- a big gauge yarn.  1 ball makes this hat as well.
Print out the patterns here, by highlighting the pattern itself and hitting print, or stop in for a hard copy.  We will be starting our 100 Hat Ladder today- Tuesday Jan 5.    I know we can do this- knit 100 hats for Laura Howell, Pastor at Trinity Episcopal Church, to distribute in our community.  This is a very worthwhile project, so please help me show just what a great bunch of knitters can do!
Remember-as an added incentive- for every hat brought in- we will add your name to a drawing for a prize to be awarded at the end of January.  Not sure what it will be yet- a gift certificate, ball winder, needle set- Amanda and I will come up with something well worth winning.
We will be putting appropriate yarns on sale throughout the month (starting this week with select Encore products on sale at 10% off) and will provide the patterns freely.
Only 1 rule:  To get your name into the drawing- please use yarn from the Knitter's Edge.  We will accept hats knitted in other yarns- as the need for these items goes far beyond our need to sell yarn, but we feel it is fair to restrict the prizes to our customers.  We will have lots of yarns available at low to bargain prices so this will not be a hardship for anyone.
