10,000 New Knitters!

On Saturday November 10!

On Saturday Nov 10 we are joining forces with yarn shops across the country to add 10,000 new knitters to our world.

How it Works:
24 new knitters (Newbies) will get their first taste of knitting while making a pair of fingerless mitts with a yarn and needle kit supplied by Skacel.
The 24 knitters (Sponsors) who bring these newbies to TKE will receive a Fingerless Mitt kit of their own provided by The Knitter’s Edge.
A class for the newbies will be held on Sat 11/10/18
1-3pm with our Beginner knitting teachers Becky and Julia.  Additional help will be provided by the Sponsors.  We will need their help most during cast on.
What you need to do:
Find a newbie who would like to learn to knit and call The Knitter’s Edge to sign up. Arrive before 1:00 on Saturday Nov 10 to get a seat in one of our classes. This is not a free class, but it is half price as the pair of knitters will pay as one.  The Sponsors will need to bring double pointed needles size 3 & 5 to work on their own FREE mitten kit.  Call soon as space and kits are limited.

season we will be making the Back to Basics shawl, which was designed in collaboration with The Knitter’s Edge of Bethlehem, PA to accompany their knit Reenactment Shawl. This shawl uses very basic stitches in a creative way to make a simple but elegant design. It is recommended that you have some experience with crochet, but you certainly don’t need to be an expert by any means!

Melanie will be available live and in person at the shop to help you through the pattern as you craft your new favorite fall and winter wearable. To participate in person, you must purchase the PDF of the pattern by visiting Counting Crafty Sheep on Ravelry,
or purchase the pattern at The Knitter’s Edge.
Recommended yarn for the project is Galway Sport wool. This yarn and other choices in historically appropriate fibers are available on site at The Knitter’s Edge and can be purchased when you arrive. Just bring your hook, and printed copy of your pattern, and any additional notions you like to work with.

In the first session, we would review the patterns (they are all easy) and hand out the instructions for swatches. After a week or two, each student should return with a swatch she likes and a target size for a blanket/afghan. We’d use the swatch to calculate yarn amounts and go from there. The project would be finished at their convenience.  Call to sign up.
